What the Role Is

The Manufacturing Systems Engineer position is an Information Technology role that will function as part of a DevOps-like team dedicated to digitizing the production environments in order to support significantly improved automation, data collection, and process control. Operations that will be supported include the production of our distilled spirits across the distillery, warehousing barrels, bottling, and finished goods processes. This is an opportunity to be a key member of the team reimagining the production of our products through a digital transformation effort. You will also work with other IT teams to exploit the data you help create to develop real time performance monitoring as well as analytic and predictive tools to maximize revenue and profit.

How You Will Spend Your Time?

In this role, you will support IT across a broad range of Infrastructure & Applications technologies that the plants currently use or will implement to produce our award-winning whiskies and other distilled spirits. You will apply your knowledge and experiences to define, implement, and support systems which will enable our Future of Manufacturing vision (e.g., IIOT, Software-defined networks, process control systems, plant-optimized technology, data collection and storage, and various production and warehousing mobility solutions) along with supporting the legacy manufacturing systems within the facility.

  • Provide the technology knowledge and know-how to digitize, integrate, and collect data from line automation systems (PLC-based) and interface with the enterprise planning systems
  • Interface with corporate IT and business owners on improvement programs and projects
  • Ally with the IT Business Solutions team to implement solutions with the IT Infrastructure team
  • Identify and document opportunities to improve or replace existing processes
  • Must be able to work on-site with flexible hours in support of a multi-shift operation and support weekend production when necessary
  • Provide technical support (I.T. Applications, Infrastructure, operating systems, end-user-productivity tools) to plant business customers throughout the manufacturing plant
  • Develop, maintain, and share, accurate support documentation
  • Support the local network and infrastructure, including wireless
  • Support handheld and mobile devices integrated with production and inventory applications.
  • Support servers across both physical and virtual environments in a Windows and Linux based ecosystem
  • Support the Future of Manufacturing initiatives which may utilize IIOT, iOS, software-defined networks, mobile, and Android-based technologies

Who You Are…

The successful candidate will be a person with a broad understanding of the entire OSI stack and can solve for production and digital transformation needs in a very hands-on manner. As part of an IT team dedicated to our production operations, your work will include technical troubleshooting, data analysis, and problem resolution for the applications & infrastructure on the plant floor. This role will be primarily focused on our bottling plant and distilleries in Bardstown and Louisville, KY, although solutions will be shared with our other operations across the country.

  • Posse a broad set of experiences with technology across the OSI stack, including mobile technology (Apple iOS, Android)
  • 2+ years Manufacturing experience, PLC control-based environments highly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task; manage multiple tasks/projects
  • Work efficiently and effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business users and IT professionals
  • Motivated self-starter
  • Identifying, investigating & solving problems without supervision
  • Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs. and be able to walk 1-2 miles per shift
  • A strong desire for continuous learning in manufacturing operations and business practices from an IT perspective is required
  • Understanding of computer-based tools, computing infrastructure, and interest in processes and technology that support manufacturing
  • A willingness to work in a fast-paced production environment and flexible working shift is a foundation in this space
  • A capability to learn, adapt and embrace new technologies is key
  • Proven project management/implementation experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an engineering or other technical discipline


  • Position will be on-site at our Bardstown and Louisville production and warehousing facilities. This is NOT a remote work opportunity. Some travel may be required.
