What the Role Is
The Distillery Operator is responsible for the operation and manufacture of our automated distilled spirits processes using a PLC-based computer program. The Distillery Operator must have a basic understanding of mechanical processes including the operation of valves. The successful candidate must have a high mechanical aptitude, strong attention to detail, be computer literate with the ability to navigate through keyboard/mouse using PC-based software in an industrial setting, and work well with others in a union environment.


How Will You Spend Your Time?

  • Control and monitoring of distillery processes and related activities. Safety, distillate quality, production efficiency, energy management, and production planning.
  • Use of automated production recording and management reporting systems
  • Organize and prioritize production operations and dispatches in accordance with agreed plans.
  • Identify and analyze any non-conforming deviations from the expected process parameters.
  • Respond appropriately to a range of breakdowns, accidents or emergency situations. This will include initial contact with emergency service(s).
  • Maintaining accurate process and inventory records.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position operates 7 days per week in a distillery, an environment where there are machines and equipment in continuous operation, where there is exposure to noise, where there could be electrical failures, spillage or other events associated with distilling. Individuals could be forced to work overtime as needed.

EFFORT:

Must be able to walk, see, hear and speak. Intermittent sitting, standing, fingering, sorting and reaching. Considerable walking and may need to climb stairs to examine equipment and product. No heavy lifting but incidental lifting of up to 20 pounds is usual.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT:

Equipment typically used includes a computer, scanner, printer, calculator, copier and paper shredder.

Who you are:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of required testing, TABE and Bennett Mechanical
