What the Role Is
The Oracle Database Administrator will be responsible for system analysis, design, database development, implementation, and support for the Oracle database serving our ERP (IFS).
How You Will Spend Your Time?
- Serve as the Oracle SME for projects involving IFS and/or Oracle database, including ownership of needs assessment and design review. Evaluate the needs and requirements of the users and provide technical expertise in the development of technical, structural and organizational specifications.
- Maintain security, software patches for IFS and Oracle database modules
- Determine the appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage organization.
- Designs, develops and integrates highly complex database systems.
- Execute tuning and optimization actions to improve data base and application performance continuously
- Creates, documents, and implements standards and/or complex modeling to monitor and enhance the capacity and performance of the database.
- Development of scripting and queries to support operational and DB management requirements
- Performs complex analyses and reviews applications being released into production.
- Implements, manages, and utilizes tools to manage and optimize database performance
- Remains abreast of and analyzes new and emerging technologies and tools for applicability to the field.
- Prepares recommendations and presentations to management.
- Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.
- Identifies, tests, installs, and troubleshoots patches and other maintenance activities; ensures Oracle software is maintained to policy standards and meets business and application requirements
- Tune all Oracle instance components, including SQL and PL/SQL
- Design and implement all production schema changes
- Design and implement changes to database design
- Control all migrations of Oracle schema objects
- Design and implement a backup & recovery system
- Implement Oracle failover capabilities
- Data modeling and Oracle database design
- Data interface protocols
- Manage data security
- Manage non-production databases supporting development projects, testing, etc.
- Predicting future Oracle trends for hardware usage and user load and recommend the roadmap necessary to keep the Oracle database up to date and performant
- Coordinate with MS-SQL DBA for the interchange of data between systems while causing minimal impact to production
Who You Are…
- Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
- Minimum of three (3) year’s experience managing an Oracle database supporting an Enterprise Resource Planning system at a mid-market or larger enterprise
- At least 3 years of progressive experience with database query languages such as Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, and MS-SQL including expertise in stored procedure development, optimization, and support experience
- Experience needs to include all aspects of Oracle database implementation, operation, maintenance, optimization, and upgrades on current generations
- Oracle Certification is highly desired
- Travel required as needed
